Active restriction

Trails close at 10 a.m. under the extreme-heat order.

Hiking is allowed from sunrise to 10 a.m. only, and every hiker must be off all trails and the Mount Scott roadway by 10. Refuge roads remain open to motor vehicles and bicycles.

Backcountry camping is suspended until further notice.
Doris Campground, fishing, and picnicking continue during their normal operating windows.
The refuge says potable drinking water is not available and cell service is spotty.

A county burn ban is posted through September 14.

The county order prohibits campfires, bonfires, and other listed outdoor burning on nonfederal land unless it is extended, rescinded, or replaced.

The county order does not govern federal refuge land.
The Wichita Mountains and Medicine Park publish separate fire and campground rules.

WaterLake Lawtonka

Low-water caution

Floating debris and submerged obstructions can change with water level and wind.
Ramp and east-side access can change as City work advances.
Check the exact access point, permit, weather, and water level before launching or swimming.

SeasonalMedicine Park

Regular season ended

Bath Lake’s published swimming season ended Labor Day.

Medicine Park remains open to visit, but the state tourism listing gives Memorial Day through Labor Day as Bath Lake’s regular swimming season.

Treat the creek and lake as a town stop, not a promised swim.
Confirm any special access, water condition, fee, or event directly with the town.
The published trout season is November through March.

AccessMedicine Park

Completion unverified

A projected Gondola Dam completion date is not a completion notice.

A City project update projected August 31 for completion, but the desk did not find a later official notice confirming the work complete.

Treat the projection as planning history, not current access confirmation.
Check with Medicine Park before relying on a specific crossing or adjacent access.

A museum destination does not replace a Fort Sill visitor pass.

Visitors without an approved Department of Defense credential must follow the Army’s current screening, identification, and pass process before entering the active installation.

The Army recommends submitting the online request at least 24 hours ahead.
Same-day screening is available, but approval and timing are not guaranteed.
The Visitor Welcome Center currently lists daily hours of 6 a.m.–5 p.m.

MuseumFort Sill

Schedules differ

The two principal Fort Sill museums keep different public hours.

The National Historic Landmark & Museum lists Thursday–Friday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; the U.S. Army Artillery Museum lists Tuesday–Friday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Both require installation access.

Admission is listed as free.
The Artillery Museum is closed on federal holidays.
Use each museum’s Army Museum Enterprise page rather than a general phonebook listing.

The Museum of the Great Plains main building is closed for rehabilitation.

The City says the main building closed after August 15, 2026, with reopening projected for early 2028. Outdoor historic buildings remain available on the City’s posted weekday schedule.
