Trust is the product

Editorial,
properly.

Our rules for useful local reporting, transparent recommendations, sponsorships, Best of Lawton, event listings, and corrections.

Editorial recommendations are earned

A business cannot pay to enter or improve an editorial ranking. Recommendation guides explain their criteria, distinguish fact from judgment, and carry research or update dates. We do not invent public voting, ratings, awards, visits, or customer experiences.

Paid placement is unmistakable

Advertising can be labeled Sponsored, Advertisement, Local Sponsor, or Presented By. The label appears on the placement itself—not hidden in a distant policy. Sponsored stories and featured profiles remain separate from editorial rankings.

Local facts need a source

Time-sensitive details are checked against business-owned pages, event organizers, official public calendars, primary agencies, or another clearly identified source. If a price, time, address, access rule, or business detail cannot be verified, we omit it or say it needs confirmation.

Events expire; sources remain

Event records store the date, time, place, category, website, price label, source, and verification date. Readers should still open the organizer's current listing before leaving because cancellations and schedule changes can happen after publication.

Best of Lawton has a wall

Sponsors may support an edition or annual program, but they do not choose winners, nominees, categories, or ordering. Payment never guarantees consideration or inclusion. Any future public voting will use published rules and genuine, auditable participation.

Corrections are part of the work

Send a substantive correction to [email protected]. We check it against the strongest available source and update the content and date when warranted.

Ownership and current support

The Lawton Proper is a local publication project created and supported by Robert Hughes. Current paid relationships and house businesses may include Robert Hughes State Farm and Aurea Lux Collective; promotional appearances are labeled on the placement itself.

The site is not an official City of Lawton, Fort Sill, State of Oklahoma, or federal government publication. Read more about The Proper →
